Sports
If the Gospel always has a relationship with the specific cultural context in which it dwells (Jn 1:9; GS 1; EG 115), and if sports, being one of the oldest practices of humanity, is one of the most emergent phenomena of our contemporary culture, the Church looks at sports as an authentic mission field (GS 61). A mission that takes place under two major questions: What does sport have to say to the Church? What does the Church have to say to sport?
In this sense, the Dicastery for Culture and Education has taken on the task of promoting the Church's relations with the world of sports, so that those who are part of it may feel recognized "as persons at the service of the sincere search for the true, the good and the beautiful" (Praedicate Evangelium, 154).
In keeping with the broad goals of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the "sports section" of this Dicastery aims at four specific goals:
1. To promote the encounter between the saving message of the Gospel, ecclesial structures, and the world of sports.
2. To promote the use of sports as an educational resource and a tool for the cultural development of people.
3. Create relationships with international sports bodies and Catholic sports associations.
4. Facilitate Church-sport dialogue at the universities, sports centers, and organizations, and promote meetings between these cultural environments.
