Msgr. Ambros was born on July 24, 1979, in Freyung, Germany. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Passau on October 10, 2009. He earned a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.

Since 2016, he has served in the Roman Curia, initially at the then Congregation for Catholic Education and later at the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, where he was appointed Substitute Promoter of Justice in December 2022. In 2024, Pope Francis appointed him Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education.

Msgr. Ambros, who serves in the Education Section, is also a Member of the Special Commission for the Treatment of Cases of Dissolution of Marriages in Favor of the Faith of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and an Invited Professor of the Faculty of Canon Law of the aforementioned Gregorian University.
