Ethics and AI in Asia: new challenges and opportunities
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has had a significant impact on areas such as economy, global politics, communication and data analysis. Although AI offers great opportunities, it also presents significant risks and challenges. These are particularly evident in Asia, the world's most populous continent: here, since 2017, national strategies have placed increasing emphasis on AI to promote regional stability and prosperity.
This publication, promoted by the Centre for Applied Ethics at Hong Kong Baptist University in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Culture at the Dicastery for Culture and Education, is the result of numerous online meetings and an international congress involving academics from across Asia, focusing on the specific issues that Asia is facing in the development and implementation of AI. The article aims to analyse the challenges associated with AI and suggest possible solutions to address them, offering a concrete response to the main social and ethical concerns raised by AI in Asia.
