Sports dialogue on Pope Leo XIV's letter "Life in Abundance"

news ‒ 09 March 2026

On Tuesday, 17 March, at 5 p.m., in the Marconi Room at Palazzo Pio (Piazza Pia, 3 - Rome), Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça and Olympic champion Francesca Lollobrigida will discuss the value of sport, drawing inspiration from the Letter Life in Abundance signed by Pope Leo XIV on 6 February, on the occasion of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games.

In the midst of the Paralympics, the meeting — moderated by Alessandro Gisotti, deputy director of Vatican Media — is organised by the Dicastery for Culture and Education, the Dicastery for Communication and Athletica Vaticana, the Holy See's official sports association.

The speakers include Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, whose mission is to promote the Holy See's relationship with the world of sport, and Francesca Lollobrigida, an Italian athlete who recently won Olympic gold medals in speed skating in the 3000 and 5000 metres.

Admission is free, subject to availability.

Journalists interested in the event must register at the Press Office.
