This morning, December 16th, the Dicastery received a visit from Dr Luciano Buonfiglio, president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). The meeting was attended by Monsignor Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Dicastery (Culture Section), Don Miguel Cardoso, Head of the Dicastery's Sports Sector, and Dr Giampaolo Mattei, President of Athletica Vaticana, the Holy See's official sports team.

The fruitful dialogue with Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery that regulates the Church's relationship with the world of sport (Praedicate Evangelium, 154), provided the opportunity to analyse the current situation of sport, pinpoint paths for reflection and envisage future collaborations, taking into account the importance of sport for the construction of humanity itself.

Recalling Pope Leo XIV's homily on the Jubilee of Sport (15 June), sport presents itself as an emerging field of mission for the Church, but also as a challenge for athletes and sports agents themselves, making sport a place for promoting good and peace among peoples.
