The Triennial of Art of the Catholic Universities comes to Milan with
"Spiritual Machines"

news ‒ 06 October 2026

After Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, Bogotà and Boston, the fifth Exercise in Empathy, Macchine Spirituali (Spiritual Machines), part of the international ART CUT project, arrives in Italy, hosted by the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. Among those present were Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, and the rector Elena Beccalli, together with the curators Nuno Crespo, Elena Di Raddo and Alessandra Squizzato.

The exhibition, which revolves around the question "what space remains today for interiority, relationship and the spiritual dimension, in a world increasingly mediated by technology?", occupies the cloisters of the university headquarters in Largo Gemelli, which, offering a sense of spirituality and sharing, through the artworks become empathic contexts capable of prompting questions about our interiority and our relationship with our surroundings.

On view through November 20, the exhibition brought together artists such as: Gian Maria Tosatti, Rodrigo Cass, Rui Chafes and Orla Barry.
