Exercises in Empathy: Tramas de lo Vivo / Entanglements of the Living

The works brought together in this exhibition, Tramas de lo vivo, propose different ways of perceiving: the Earth’s deep time, the memory inscribed in landscapes, the various indigenous worldviews, the relationships between species, and the connections between the geological, the biological, the cosmic, and the spiritual. In the words of His Eminence Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education and promoter of this Triennial, empathy is today “an increasingly indispensable tool for building and sharing knowledge, for weaving reciprocity.” From this perspective, the living world is understood not merely as a collection of objects and beings, but is recognized as a community of existence with intrinsic value.

In this journey, empathy becomes a practice of perception, capable of broadening our understanding of the world. Recognizing that we belong to this living web is the first step toward imagining other forms of coexistence based on interdependence, care, and shared responsibility.
